Dele slept in the car.
I didn't know this until later—until Yemi mentioned it the next morning with the studied neutrality of a woman reporting weather. "He's in the Camry," she said, pouring hot water over a teabag. "He went out around midnight. The seats recline." She said this last part as though it were relevant information, as though the ergonomics of Dele's self-imposed exile were a practical concern and not a kind of penance I wasn't sure he'd earned the right to perform.
